What Do You Say About a Bad Review

I have had my book up on line for a couple of months now.  All of the reviews have been good except one.  In this particular review the post says:

"This guys sounds like a communist.  I would not trust him."

I wrote this book from the point of view of a person that grew up in the 1960's and 70's.  He was influenced by the counter culture movement of the time and his world view was that corporate America was interested in having him be a full on consumer and that the government mostly wanted him to be a dutiful tax paying unit.  This was the point of view of the character.  So how do I reconcile a review like the one above.  It's nice to know that my words had an impact upon this reviewer.  I just didn't think that a person could transfer the traits of a character to the writer.  You live and you learn.

Constant Vigilance, A novel By Will Stevenson

This book help people understand how an average Joe growing up in America can develop the habit of always questioning authority and looking behind the official account for the truth.

I wrote this book because I wanted to recount some of the abuses of power committed by our government during the twentieth century and how they have shaped the perceptions and attitudes of some of the people who lived through that time.

“The condition upon which God hath given liberty to man is eternal vigilance; which condition if he breaks, servitude is at once the consequence of his crime and the punishment of his guilt.”

Exactly who first uttered this phrase is somewhat in dispute. It has been attributed to a number of the founding fathers of the United States. This phrase has more relevance today than at any time in the history of the United States or in the history of Mankind. Not only do we need to guard our liberty from the abuse of the power and authority that we have granted to our government, we also need to guard against the abuse of power garnered by multinational corporations.

This story chronicles the development of Constant Vigilance in an ordinary guy who by happenstance finds himself in the cross hairs of powerful forces determined to control and prevent the spread of information that may harm their interest. The circumstances he stumbles into threaten his safety and his way of life. His path to understanding tests his beliefs and relationships. In the final analysis, the road less traveled may be the only option left.
